If you’re a comic junkie with very deep pockets, you might want to get ready to bid on this ultimate find – Action Comics #1, from June 1938 and the first time Superman is featured in a comic book. The item goes up for auction exclusively on eBay starting August 14th for 10 days.

It’s estimated there only 50-100 (fewer according to some) unrestored copies of this issue still in existence and this one is being touted as being the finest known copy available.

According to a recent announcement, the comic received a rating of 9.0, the highest ever received, from the Certified Guaranty Company (CGC), a leading 3rd party grading service.

“The quality and preservation of this Action #1 is astounding,” said Paul Litch, CGC Primary Grader. “The book looks and feels like it just came off the newsstand. It is supple, the colors are deep and rich and the quality of the white pages is amazing for a comic that is 76 years old.”

I wonder how much it will go for?  The only other Action #1 Comic that was blessed with a rare CGC grade of 9.0 sold for a record $2.161 million US – and that was back in 2011. And that copy was not even as nice as this one. That copy had cream to off-white coloured pages. This one that’s being offered up for auction on eBay is in pristine condition and the pages are white.

Whatever it sells for will be way above the cover price of 10 cents.

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the comic will go to a good cause – The Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, an organization that helps people living with paralysis.  Christopher Reeve, of course, is well known for playing Superman in the classic 70’s and 80’s movies. Reeve became a quadriplegic after he was injured during an equestrian event in the mid 90’s, when he was thrown off his horse. He passed away in 2004.

To find out more about the auction, visit the special Action Comics #1 page on eBay.  There you’ll also find some other historical auction numbers. If you want to see what this incredible masterpiece looks like and have a peek inside the comic, you can find it, complete with a viewer at CGCComic.com.

Oh to dream!
